Areas of expertise

  • Complex disputes
  • Mediation
  • Renewable Energy

On qualifying at a well known London firm in 1993 David specialised in commercial litigation, gaining experience in a range of substantial disputes, often involving household names. Building on this experience he joined DLA Piper in 1997, handling increasingly complex and important cases. He joined Aaron & Partners LLP in 2004, balancing family ties (he is from Denbigh in North East Wales) and continuing quality of work.

David is recommended in the 2009 edition of the Legal 500 as ‘good at keeping his clients out of court‘ and giving ‘very good, accurate and clear advice in short timescales‘.

His practice is split between dispute resolution and renewable energy project work and in addition he is a CEDR accredited Mediator.

Dispute Resolution

David is a passionate believer in the need to achieve a commercial solution, and has taken an active role in publicising the lessons learned. He has lectured in dispute management, emergency remedies and alternative dispute resolution, and contributed to the London Solicitors Litigation Association’s response to Lord Woolf’s Access to Justice report (subsequently embodied in the Woolf Reforms). He was an early adopter of the process of mediation, in which he has extensive experience, and is himself a CEDR accredited mediator.

Renewable Energy

Aaron & Partners LLP has for many years enjoyed a strong reputation in specialist areas of practice such as planning, environmental, minerals and waste management. Through these the practice gained knowledge of early renewable energy developments such as from landfill gas.

David has technical knowledge and expertise in managing complex and critical path problems gained through years of advising in such matters. In addition, he is himself a director of (and shareholder in) a windfarm development company presently developing a c.70MW scheme in partnership with the local community. Under David’s leadership, and building on Aaron & Partners LLP’s existing strengths, the practice has become established as one of the leading niche players in the industry. It prides itself on having high levels of expertise, and in delivering an exceptionally cost effective service.

When David is not advising his clients he enjoys sailing, horse riding and the arts.
