Relationship Breakdown

Over 120,000 couples divorce each year in England and Wales.  In addition, there are married couples who decide not to divorce but who feel they can no longer live together and just wish to separate. For those living together the rates of separation are greater than for married couples and, for Civil Partners, although the number entering into Civil Partnerships rose in 2010 to a total of over 6,000, the dissolution figures have also continued to rise to a total of over 500.

When any relationship breaks down it can be a very difficult time, not just emotionally, but also financially. Our very experienced Family team can support you through this period and advise you to ensure that you get a fair financial settlement as you plan the future for yourself and any children.

We have provided more detailed information on divorce, separation, separation of unmarried couples, the break-up of civil partnerships and on issues surrounding domestic abuse.
